Swimmers

Swimmers delves into the sensation of being immersed by dissolving the figure’s boundaries.

The sensory freedom of movement and physical release I experience when immersed and moving within and through water allows me a powerful transformative experience.

Water also offers wonderful scope for exploration both visual and metaphorical.

I  am fascinated by the constantly shifting surface of water as it distorts and alters our visual perceptions of the body. This in turn both visually and metaphorically affects our sense of self.

During one of my exhibitions, which displayed some of these paintings  a woman who experienced body dysmorphia emotionally expressed to me that her engagement with them helped her to understand and acknowledge that she was imposing on herself a  distorted view of her own body image and this recognition allowed for a positive way forward. Her engagement meant a lot to me too!
